As Taiwan’s only museum and school of shared location, MOCA Taipei and Jan Cheng Junior High School began collaborating for the “Artist in School Residence Program” seven years ago. Throughout the years, extensive collaborations have been conducted with the achievement of great mutual consensus; therefore, the project has expanded to include elementary and senior high schools, with its artistic educational contents improving year after year. Since four years ago, the project has also extended from in-class activities involving teachers and students to public exhibitions and showcases.
In 2013, MOCA Taipei invited artist Ye Yu-jun to participate in the program, and together with Jan Cheng Junior High School’s art teacher Jiang Yu-hsuan and performance art teacher Chang Chiao-ming, they collaborated in coming up with creative courses based on performance art concepts, which were taught to the 286 8th grade students of the school. Ye Yu-jun incorporated into the curriculum her recent experiences with performance art in public spaces and also other creative experiences she acquired from art residence programs. The courses encouraged the students to freely express with their bodies and also incited their creativities with activities such as uniform makeover, cardboard box painting, flash mob action, and also activities that included the campus setting. The series of creative activities have garnered a collection of diverse and interesting works.
